REST IN PEACE:
This post is one of many tribute pages found on my blog created to honor significant family members, friends, and loved ones who have passed from this life to the next . . .
+ Joseph Leo Winterling, Sr. (my maternal grandfather)
Date/place of birth: June 7, 1912, Baltimore, Maryland
Date/place of death: March 8, 1966, Baltimore, Maryland
My grandfather +Joe, a very devout Catholic and successful businessman, passed-away when I was three years old. I have clear memories of visiting him and my grandmother +Marie in their Locust Point, Baltimore, home, of holding his hand while walking in the park, and of attending his funeral.
A couple of months after my grandfather died, I remember being in the back yard of my family’s home in Uplands, West Baltimore, and I lost hold of a helium-filled red balloon; I watched with dismay as the balloon drifted up in the sky and into the clouds. My mom then comforted me by telling me it was being delivered to my grandfather in heaven where he would be able to receive it and enjoy it as a gift from me. That brought me a lot of consolation, and I remember that moment as clear as if it had happened yesterday! 🎈🥰
– Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
